Cap Nord: understand the cycle instead of enduring it

L'essentiel

Cap Nord reads the economic regime of the moment — not from stale figures, but from the prices — and shows you how assets have historically behaved inside it. This isn't investment advice. It's a method.

The European retail investor's problem

Most of the investing tools available today fall into one of two opposite traps.

The first: indexing blindly. Buy an MSCI World ETF and hope the next 30 years look like the last 30. Simple, but with no frame at all for reading the economic cycles.

The second: reacting to headlines. Chasing analyst forecasts, central-bank moves, quarterly results. Trying to front-run the next move. Costly in time and often self-defeating.

Both approaches share the same flaw: they assume a single future. But the economy doesn't move in a straight line. It swings between regimes — and each regime favors different assets.

Regime

A durable state of the economy — for example: low real rates and a supportive market trend. Cap Nord doesn't map it onto a ready-made grid in advance: it deduces it from the prices, along two axes that have held under test — the real rate (the monetary mechanics) and the market trend. Regimes emerge from the data; they aren't imposed.

What Cap Nord does

Cap Nord is a platform for analyzing and building ETF portfolios for European retail investors. It rests on a simple idea: before choosing assets, you have to understand the economic context they move in.

The platform is built around four steps.

1. Explore — read the context

Cap Nord continuously analyzes the macro data of 198 countries: inflation, growth, rates, liquidity. Each country is placed in a current economic regime, with its history.

The point isn't to predict. It's to locate.

Coverage
198 countries
Current and historical macro regime, from public sources (Eurostat, IMF, World Bank, FRED, ECB)

2. Analyze — understand assets in context

For each asset class — stocks, bonds, commodities, gold, currency, BTC — Cap Nord shows how those assets have behaved in each macro regime historically.

This isn't a forecast. It's a reading of the historical consistency between economic context and asset behavior.

Implication pour l'allocation

An asset doesn't perform in the abstract. It performs in a precise context. The question isn't "is this a good asset?" but "is this an asset consistent with the current regime?"

3. Build — construct a coherent allocation

From the macro reading and the asset analysis, Cap Nord lets you build a structured ETF portfolio.

Not a one-size-fits-all allocation. An allocation informed by the real economic situation, fitted to the European tax wrappers (PEA, life-insurance, CTO, PER) and to the UCITS ETFs available on European markets.

4. Manage — adjust without reacting

The economic context shifts. Allocations evolve with it.

Cap Nord provides markers to manage over time: structured DCA, tracking of how well the portfolio fits the current regime, informative alerts. Without ever dictating an action.

Regimes read, not decreed

For a long time, people wanted to sort the economy into a grid: strong or weak growth, high or low inflation, four boxes. Appealing on paper. But tested against the data, that imposed grid didn't hold.

Cap Nord works the other way around. We don't decree the axes, we deduce them. Two survived the test. The real rate first — the interest rate once inflation is stripped out — which sets gold against financial assets: Wicksell (the gap between the observed rate and the "natural" rate) and Barsky-Summers (gold, a money with no yield, suffers when real rates rise). The market trend next — price against its moving average, which tells you whether a market is carried or broken (Faber). A regime is a state read off these two axes, not a box ticked in advance.

No asset wins in every regime. No investor knows which one is coming. The only rational defense is the structure of the exposure — not the bet.

Principle
Structure before performance
A robust allocation organizes an exposure across several possible regimes, without betting on a single scenario

Who it's for

Cap Nord is for European retail investors who want to:

  • Understand the economic cycle rather than suffer the investing fads.
  • Build a structured allocation without depending on a single story about the future.
  • Manage with discipline over the long run, without overreacting to short-term swings.
  • Reach a macro reading so far reserved for institutions (Hedgeye, 42 Macro at $225/month).

What Cap Nord is not

Cap Nord does not provide personalized investment advice. It isn't a trading signal, not a promise of performance, not a robo-advisor.

It's a tool for analysis and construction. The discipline and the decisions stay yours.

Why now

Premium macro tools cost several hundred euros a month and are aimed at professionals. European ETF screeners list products without tying them to the cycle. Robo-advisors impose their allocation without explaining their logic.

Until now, no European tool combined macro-regime reading with concrete ETF construction for retail investors.

Cap Nord is built for the European market: multi-country taxation, UCITS ETFs, local wrappers, seven languages.
